BONNE ESPÉRANCE GALLERY continues its exploration of the contemporary South African creative scene with a new exhibition of works never before exhibited in Paris.
This exhibition highlights the skill of the women of the UBUHLE collective – Ubuhle means beauty in the Zulu and Xhosa languages – and their spectacular beaded canvases as well as the monumental ceramic works of strange and poetic beauty by ASTRID DAHL.
These women are based in a remote area of the Natal Midlands of South Africa and have turned their isolation into a strength, allowing a dialogue between their skills, the soul of the materials they use and the nature which surrounds them.
The almost endemic character of this art – ASTRID DAHL like many women from the UBUHLE collective has never left South Africa – brings freshness and a uniquely beautiful voice to contemporary creativity. Works by the UBUHLE collective are part of the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution and other museums in the United States.
Discover their works from January 23 to April 6, 2020. BONNE ESPÉRANCE GALLERY 3 rue notre dame de bonne nouvelle, 75002 Paris.
